Our Story
This historic hotel near the Huka Falls in the Wairakei Tourist Park dates back to 1886. The original building has been replaced by a purpose-built low-rise resort in expansive landscaped grounds in the Wairakei Geothermal Valley. You can discover links to our history throughout the hotel, and our friendly staff pride themselves on welcoming couples and families for romantic trips or nostalgic reunions. We do everything we can to ensure you enjoy the perfect weekend break or a longer escape in this fascinating region of the North Island.
Our Accommodation
Our spacious and comfortable rooms include well-equipped disability rooms in the Tahaura Wing. They have king-size beds and mobility-access bathrooms. There are more spa suites in the same wing, which feature spa baths and walk-in showers. Many of these rooms interconnect with twin or king accommodation, making them ideal for larger groups and families enjoying special occasions.

Wairakei Resort Taupō is the perfect venue for outdoor enthusiasts. You can play a game of squash or tennis on the hotel’s courts or enjoy a round of golf on the resort’s 9-hole course. Head to the ski slopes south of Lake Taupō for a little fresh powder in the winter, or take an exciting jet-boat ride to the Huka Falls on the Waikato River.
